This season our Under 13 team continued building on our 2020 – 2021 effort, showing continued growth and resilience in a season that had plenty of opportunities for both.
A STRONG CORE
A strong core of players returned to our Lowe & Co 13U Pirates team this season. We also welcomed several new team members – many putting down flat bats in order to start swinging round ones! Thanks to Patricia (our new Baseball Nana) and our 'Mars Rover' pitching machine, we got plenty of practice swinging those round bats this year.
After Christmas, our Tuesday Development League transformed into our Pirates Gold vs Pirates Black series. This competition was a great opportunity to continue developing younger players whilst strengthening our Sunday Travel League squad. Congratulations to Pirates Gold and their victory in the final of a best of three series.
3rd PLACE OVERALL
After Christmas, our season underwent some significant challenges. From Baseball NZ’s decision to cancel the U13 national tournament to the general instability that Omicron created region wide, it seemed difficult to get our feet and play to our fullest potential. Yet, despite it all, our U13 team made a strong finish, achieving third place in the competitive Wellington Baseball Association Sunday League. Throughout the season, they never stopped having fun playing baseball with their friends, bringing smiles, fun and some Pirates swagger every weekend!
To our nine 13U players who are moving up to the 16U competition next year - good luck! To our five returning players, enjoy your winter break and encourage your mates to become a Pirate next summer - and join us for another exciting season of baseball.
Let's go!
